By Heather Madsen,
As the year moves past summer and into fall it can sometimes feel like time stands still and everything is stagnant. We’re past the fun summer holidays filled with fireworks and barbeques, but we still have months to go before most of us can dress up in costumes or visit family over large turkey dinners. If you’re feeling the drag this year you’re not alone, but keep your head up because Bear Lake has you covered. For three whole days next weekend Garden City is hosting their annual Bear Lake Raspberry Days, and it’s a holiday you don’t want to miss!
A long-standing tradition in the community (and afar), people flock to this festival from all over Utah and Idaho. Raspberries are in season and perfectly ripe for picking in early August which makes it the perfect time to come enjoy Bear Lake’s famous raspberry shakes, pie, and more. The festivities are kicked off with a parade down Main Street. People line the streets to watch the gorgeous floats, antique cars, drill teams, band performances, and more. If you have kids make sure to bring a bag to hold all of the candy and trinkets thrown from the floats!
Other highlights of the holiday include vendors and craftsmen at the fairgrounds, live music, food and beverage tents, a pie eating competition, kiddie rides, a rodeo, and a very special parade of boats decked out in colorful lights that ends with a fireworks show. It’s the perfect event to bring some excitement and fun into the beginning of fall.
The festival is being held from August 3rd to 5th at the Garden City Heritage Park. Events start as early as 8:30am and can go late into the evening, depending on the day. Bring your friends and family for a whole weekend of raspberry-holiday fun! Find more information at https://bearlake.org/event/bear-lake-raspberry-days/.
