By Heather Madsen,
If you’ve been yearning to travel to far-off places, but can’t quite swing it because of work, time, money, or obligations, just know you’re not alone. Most people have travel bucket lists and I don’t know of a single office worker who doesn’t dream of an exotic vacation during Zoom calls. If you’re feeling landlocked or have come down with a case of cabin fever, maybe one of these events will lift your spirits and transport you to somewhere far away for a day.
If your travel dreams include going to South America and eating some of the most impressive dishes you can imagine, then you might want to swing by the Mega Peruvian Festival. This festival is being held on July 28th and 29th in downtown Salt Lake. Entertainment will feature music, dancing, singing, alpacas, and more! Not to mention all of the traditional cuisine that Peruvians boast is the best in the world. Find more information about this festival here: https://www.facebook.com/fiestas.delperu.
Maybe your ideal trip includes visiting the middle east, immersing yourself in different cultures, and learning about their different traditions and pastimes. If so, Utah’s first-ever Halal Food Festival might be the perfect staycation activity for you. This event will be held at Rosewood Park on July 29th. There will be halal vendors, restaurants, and businesses as well as a Cricket game featuring Muhammad Asif, a former cricketer who played on the Pakistani national cricket team! More information about this festival can be found at https://www.visitsaltlake.com/event/utahs-first-ever-halal-food-festival/50928/.
Finally, if your travel bucket list includes appreciating art, or seeing as many different countries as possible, then the World Folkfest is calling your name. This festival is being held the first week of August in Springville and will feature dancing, music, art, and performances from over 10 different countries across the globe. There will also be food trucks, children’s activities, raffles, crafts, and so much more. Find tickets and more information at: https://www.utahvalley.com/event/world-folkfest-2023/32778/.
