By Heather Madsen,
It might only be August but Oktoberfest is here already! From noon to 6 pm every weekend from now until October 15th, it’s open season on beer, bratwurst, and barrels of fun up at Snowbird. Whether you’re new to the tradition of Oktoberfest, or a mug-collecting veteran, you won’t want to miss this year’s lineup of entertainment and Bavarian goodies.
The first Oktoberfest was a celebration of the King of Bavaria’s marriage in the 19th century. It became a yearly tradition that spread far and wide until 1972 when Utah’s Snowbird picked it up. What started as a tiny dinner with just a few friends quickly grew in size until it became the ginormous celebration it is today. No matter how big the event gets though, some things stay consistent; after all, it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without the biergartens and roasted meat.
If you’ve never gone to Oktoberfest before and are serious about getting the most out of your visit, we recommend you purchase the Snowbird Oktoberfest beer stein or mug. Not only is it a collectible with a new design each year, but you get a discount on refills when you reuse it! We also recommend you come hungry because you’ll want to try one of everything on the menu. To accompany your food there will also be live music, dancing, and performances all festival long. Be sure to check the event calendar to know which weekends have the musicians and artists you want to see!
Admission to the festival is free but you will have to purchase parking and all food and beverage items. Snowbird offers a free shuttle down the canyon, where it’s much easier to get picked up by a friend or rideshare driver, so no one has to be the designated driver and miss out on the fun. So grab your friends, your kids, and your beer stein, and come join us for a fantastic Oktoberfest! For more information visit https://www.snowbird.com/oktoberfest/.
