Going to the movies is nostalgic and fun for almost every generation. Whether it’s at a drive-in theater, your local theater, or the blowup screen in the park, there’s something irresistible about hanging out with people you love and watching a good movie. If you love the smell of extra butter popcorn, spending time with friends and family, and giving classic activities a vintage twist, then Utah’s 5th Silent Film Celebration is something you won’t want to miss.
On September 15th and 16th, the Megaplex Theatres at Legacy Crossing in Centerville will be hosting this two-day festival where they will be screening eleven silent comedies from archives of the great works of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and more. Not only is watching these vintage films on the silver screen a treat in and of itself but there will also be over 200 musicians, consisting of students and professionals, to accompany the silent films.
The set list this year consists of classics like Sherlock Jr., The Adventurer, and The Haunted House, along with animated films like Dick and Larry, who were the human precursors to Tom and Jerry. There’s a movie for everyone, so be sure to check the movie schedule so you know when the best night for you to go is. Or, buy a festival pass so you don’t have to pick and choose; you can enjoy the festival at your leisure and watch as many films as you want!
Experiencing these classic and groundbreaking silent films with live music is a treat most people haven’t had the chance to experience. So bring your grandparents, your kids, the neighbors, and your friends because this festival is a one-of-a-kind event you all will enjoy!
