Christmas is just around the corner, which means now is the perfect time to take the family to see all of your favorite Christmas classics on stage before the season is over. There are dozens of theaters and local productions being performed this week, so here is a sneak peak at some of the wonderful shows you can choose from.
There’s nothing more classic than Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and you can see the heartwarming tale in person at several different venues this year. Both Hale Center Theatres, in Sandy and Orem, will be showing A Christmas Carol until the end of the year. These seats sell out fast, so it’s a good idea to book your tickets now! Or you could attend one of these other adaptations of the ultimate Christmas tale, such as Timpanogos Valley Theatre’s A Christmas Carol – A Live Radio Play, or the Alpine Community Theater’s production in Pleasant Grove.
Speaking of classics, you can’t help but be spellbound by the Christmas tale The Nutcracker. Ballet West will be performing this ballet at Capitol Theatre up until the holiday itself, and their dancers are sure to enchant you. If you’ve already seen The Nutcracker performed and are looking for something new however, you’ll want to see The Nutcracker and the Mouse Queen, being performed by Serena Webb Dance Theater at the Mid Valley Performing Arts Center. It’s a steampunk take on the classic ballet, with all of the beloved mystic and magical holiday elements woven in.
If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, you should definitely check out one of the many local productions of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, and get swept away with the romance and singing. The Ziegfeld Theater is performing this musical until December 23rd this year, and active military personnel and veterans get in free. Centerpoint Legacy Theatre is also hosting a production of White Christmas, as is the Tuacahn Amphitheatre.
