By Heather Madsen,
Even with the weather warming up, and Spring teasing us with an early arrival, the early winter months can sometimes seem to drag on endlessly. The outdoors can feel dreary and univinting, and once New Years is over, there often isn’t a big holiday or celebration for a lot of people to look forward to until summer. If you’re yearning for lifted spirits, and something to look forward to, (or if you need a unique Valentine’s date idea), you’ll be excited to learn about MarchFourth!
Contrary to what the name suggests, MarchFourth will be held February 15th at The Commonwealth Room. This event is hard to describe, but if you envision sticking the circus, band camp, a rock concert, and a stained glass window in a blender, then MarchFourth is what would pour out. The event focuses on a genre-busting blend of live music, with an electric bass, guitar, 4-piece percussion corps, and a 7-part brass section. The music that flows out of them is a mash-up inspired by American Funk, rock, and jazz, but that isn’t the only thing that will blow your socks off.
The show also includes stilt-walkers, acrobats, dancers, elaborate costumes, and of course stunning showmanship. If you’ve ever wanted to visit Mardi Gra in New Orleans, see a Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas, or see an original Barnum circus show, then MarchFourth is the perfect event to give you a little taste of all of that. They’ve even been known to “swagger” down Main Street before they start their on stage performance, so if you want a unique street parade experience, we recommend showing up early and listening for the raucous and celebratory tunes marching your way!
